Step into the colourful world of Día de los Muertos, Mexico’s vibrant festival of remembrance! This engaging Entry Level unit introduces learners to the traditions, symbols and history of the Day of the Dead, exploring how families honour and celebrate loved ones who have passed away. Children will discover the meanings behind marigolds, sugar skulls, and ofrendas (altars), while considering how this joyful festival compares with more secular festivities such as Hallowe'en.

Through practical activities such as baking Pan de Muerto, creative opportunities such as designing their own La Catriona, and reflecting on the theme of memory, learners will gain a deeper understanding of how different cultures celebrate life, death, and community.

This unit is packed with opportunities for cross-curricular links to art, history, and RE, while fostering respect, curiosity, and appreciation for global traditions.
